Q. Some people think that the government is wasting money on the arts and that this money could be spent elsewhere.
To what extent do you agree with this view?
I agree that the government uses tax payer’s money to buy art works.
I think that using money to buy art works is not a waste of money.
There are two reasons.
At first, art is a kind of cultural heritage which includes the aspect of the era in which it was made.
They show several things, for example, the ancient way of life, tragedy of some events and are an expression of the people.
So art works should be protected and preserved.
Second, some art work is very valuable so individuals should not simply hold them.
The government which has huge funds can gather and preserve these art works.
I think ruins of the world are also art.
Ruins are evidence of the life of humankind in the past.
So all countries of the world should preserve them.
Therefore, I think government should use money to preserve art.
